Problably the most well known Sonic action figures from the 90s have to be the Mcdonalds Sonic 3 toys. In 1994 Sega and Mcdonalds made a promotion for Sonic the hedgehog 3, that also included "Action figures". The reasons why it is in quotes is becous some people might not consider them action figures. While that is true and they are toys and not really action figures, I still decided to add them.
The set contained a Sonic toy that when a button is pressed, sends him at mach speeds; a Tails toy hwere you pull a string that makes him fly; a Knuckles toy where he spins in a cloud(?); and a Robotnik toy that you turn a little plastic piece and than it moves on its own. It also contained a plastic ball with a picture of Sonic on it for the kids under the age of 3.
Due to this partnership with mcdonalds, Sonic the hedgehog 3 had to be split into 2 games: Sonic the hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. I am sure everybody knows of the lock in mechanic of Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
But these aren't the only verions of these toys! In Japan the toys had little changes to fit more with the way Sonic looked there. The notable changes are: Robotnik dosen't use the Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog design and Sonic looks a little less retarded.
You might be wondering "Okay, McDonalds made some Sonic toys for a promotion, but are there actual toys that you can buy from somewhere that isn't a Mcdonalds?", and to that the answear is yes! Tomy made a whole lot of Sonic toys, going from plushies to even toy cars! But we are focusing on the figures. Tomy made a whole bunch of Sonic 2cm figures! They have no articulation and they look kinda stupid becous they were most likely painted by a random chineese kid.
The set contained a whole binch of figures including Sonic in 3 diffrent figures, Robotnik, Tails, Knuckles, a lot of badniks and even a removed Badnik named Splats (don't cry he appeard in Sonic Mania :D)
But Tomy didn't also make these figures! They also made these little Sonic and Tails walking figures, witch (in case you forgot half a second ago) can walk! You wind them up and they start moving! They are also for some reason REALLY thick.
The last Sonic figure mad by Tomy on our list is this Sonic bendy toy! Unlike the other ones, this one has "articulation" (kinda). The problem with bendy toys tho is that usually the wire inside break and you cant really move Sonic around. Well exept if your this guy on ebay who seems to never have taken it out of the box...
And those all are the Sonic fiugres of the 90s! The figures in the next chapters will be catogarized by the company who made them and not the decade that they were made in.
